Trustees will be required to attend four Board meetings (hybrid), relevant committee/advisory group meetings and a Board Development Day each year.

In welcoming applications from across Scotland, the QNIS recognises that diversity in the voices around its table will better reflect the communities it serves. Successful applicants will be offered an induction programme and opportunities for further training as appropriate.

Background

QNIS is a charity that provides a range of high-quality professional development opportunities for Scotland’s community nurses and midwives, encouraging them to tackle health and care inequalities in collaboration with the people they care for. QNIS was established by Royal Charter originally in 1889 and organised the training of District Nurses in Scotland until the late 1960s.

The founders of the QNIS had a vision for promoting health, to enable those living in poverty to access care, to live well, and to die with dignity. This is a mission the QNIS continues today.

What the QNIS does

The QNIS supports, develops and inspires Scotland’s community nurses and midwives to be agents for health improvement and catalysts for social change. The QNIS designs and delivers development programmes, advocates for the community nursing and midwifery professions, helps shape policy and legislation, promotes community careers, and makes awards for long service. It provides friendship, connection, and support for retired Queen’s Nurses who trained before 1969. Its 2024 Annual Review provides insight into QNIS’s achievements and successes.
